[Xcircuit-dev] XCircuit and Cygwin status

At the end of last week, I made an attempt to compile xcircuit under
Cygwin as the Tcl interpreter extension. I quickly discovered a major
snag---the Tk graphics package in Cygwin is compiled with native
Windows graphics API, not with X11. At the moment, getting XCircuit
to run as a Tcl extension requires re-compiling Tk to use X11
graphics, not WIN32API. This is probably a more painful route than
most people want to go, particularly as the benefits of the Tcl
interface are minimal. I may try to rework the graphics sometime to
allow me to write a WIN32 interface. For now, though, don't
configure for compilation with "--with-tcl" if you're using Cygwin.
Regards,
Tim
