Sorry, you didn't make it clear (or I didn't notice) before that you
are using XCircuit version 3.1;  there is an error in the install
script that will prevent you from using "XCIRCUIT_LIB_DIR" as
advertised.  The two solutions are 1) to use the latest version 3.2,
or 2) to go ahead and do "make install".  The error only occurs when
trying to run the program prior to installation.
