Don't compile with --enable-asg.  The ASG is broken, has never worked,
and can only cause the program to crash if you do manage to compile
it in.  I removed it from the "stable" distribution, and it remains
in the development distribution only because I still have some vague
hope that I will get around to fixing it one day.
